Tipp County Council Spends €1.77 Million On Consultancy – McGrath

Independent TD Mattie McGrath has said he will make immediate investigations in to how Tipperary County Council managed to justify spending €1,770,653 on outside consultancy work from January to November 2015. Deputy McGrath was speaking after reviewing the figures relating to the spending which included €768,990 on Engineering Consultants:

“Some of the figures are on the face of going to be extremely difficult to justify like the €63 thousand laid out for ‘Occupational Therapy Consultants’ and the €353,099 on Architectural Consultancy.

I will be hoping to establish from the Council that a sufficiently robust and cost effective tendering process was entered into.

With such enormous sums involved we need to ensure that the rates and local taxes of all the people in Tipperary are being spent to the best possible effect.

I am conscious that I am saying that in light of the extremely pressurised position many hundreds of traders in the county find themselves in with respect to the high levels of commercial rates that continue to apply.

Public money of this magnitude which was spent in the course of less than one year demands the closest possible scrutiny and accountability and that I was aim to get from the Council,” concluded Deputy McGrath.
