There is now a greater focus on preventative medicine and an understanding that our bodies are designed to heal themselves naturally and that disease usually takes place when our bodies and lifestyles are out of balance.

Numerous lifestyle and environmental factors such as what we eat, drink, our levels of stress, sleep patterns, exercise habits as well as how we think and our perception and attitude all impact on our general health and well-being.

Templemore College of Further Education is the leading provider of PLC courses in Tipperary and acknowledges the need for programmes that focus on providing a comprehensive understanding of a number of therapies to promote health and wellbeing and maximise vitality. The ‘Health and Wellness’ programme in Templemore College offers a range of ‘complementary therapies’ such as Body Massage, Aromatherapy, Indian Head Massage, Reflexology, Reiki and Stone therapy as well as Sports injury massage.

Participants will acquire a deep knowledge of complementary therapy theory and practice, and an understanding of how these fit into the wider context of health and wellbeing.

Graduates will achieve recognised qualifications awarded by CIBTAC (The Confederation of International Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology). CIBTAC Diploma holders can become members of BABTAC, and obtain insurance to engage in professional practice.

With the expansion of the health and wellbeing industry there are lots of opportunities for qualified therapists to work in areas such as Holistic Therapy and Sports Massage Therapy in locations such as Spas, Hotels, Gymnasiums, Complementary health centres, Cruise Liners, Own Business, Beauty Salons, Centres for Well-Being.

Past students from the complementary therapies department and fully qualified therapists Melanie Kelly and Cristina Gheorghe would recommend training in Templemore College of Further Education to anyone interested in a career in Complementary Therapy. Melanie states ‘not only are the courses extremely well run, they are carried out in a friendly & relaxed but professional environment to enable all students to reach their full potential’. Cristina adds My foundation and my path started in Templemore College of Further Education, I was well prepared for further studies I have now taken on board and I will have no hesitation in recommending it as a great starting point, as an avenue for pursuing training, especially in Complementary Therapies’.

Educating and acting on improving your health and wellness and that of those around you is a lifelong quest.
