Lonergan Urges Communities/Individuals To Participate Rural Development Plan

Independent County Councillor for Clonmel/Cahir Borough District, Martin Lonergan is urging individuals, groups, businesses, and communities to participate in the preparation of a plan for the LEADER element of the Rural Development Programme 2014 – 2020.

According to Councillor Lonergan, “County Tipperary has been allocated a budget just in excess of €10m to implement the LEADER programme during the period 2014 – 2020. However, this budget is significantly lower than the budget allocated to the county under the Rural Development Programme 2007 – 2013. This presents a challenge for the County and therefore the onus is on everyone to put the funding allocated to the best use possible. This funding needs to be about community participation, creating employment and tackling rural Isolation.

The Local Community Development Committee, South Tipperary Development Company and North Tipperary LEADER Partnership are combining forces to put together a plan that should address the needs of the County moving forward. This plan belongs to the people and it must reflect your needs and that of your group or community.

Therefore the LCDC in association with South Tipperary Development Company and North Tipperary LEADER Partnership are organising a public meeting for Clonmel/Cahir Borough District in Cahir House Hotel on Tuesday, 8th September at 7.30pm. This meeting is open to individuals, groups, businesses, and communities to become active participants to shape the future of the Rural Development Programme and it is important that communities across Clonmel/Cahir Borough District are well represented,” concluded Cllr. Lonergan.
