Explore the Possibilities: Buying, Building & Living in Cloughjordan Ecovillage

Cloughjordan EcoLearn presents Explore the Possibilities: Buying, Building & Living in Cloughjordan Ecovillage on Bank Holiday Saturday 30th May from 11am to 5pm with a repeat event scheduled for Saturday 24th October.

This day long event will be of interest to people who are actively looking to ‘rightsize’ their lives to a more sustainable basis in a supportive community that shares their values. If this sounds anyway familiar, then step on the path less travelled and explore the possibilities that Cloughjordan Ecovillage has to offer.

The programme offers an overview and guided tour of the Ecovillage, specially arranged access to residents’ homes that illustrate some of the features of the modern eco home and informative sessions on build options and build process. The aim is to ensure that participants leave with useful takeaways and practical advice about buying, building and living in this multi-award winning community.

“The dream of building an eco home is best tempered by equal amounts of pragmatism,” says Peadar Kirby, Director of Sustainable Projects Ireland Ltd, the company that founded the ecovillage. “A clear understanding of all the decisions to be made is recommended, including the implications of a move on lifestyle and family.”

The EcoLearn Day begins at 11:00am and runs to 5pm, allowing people to travel by train from the Dublin area and return on the same day. The rail fare from Dublin is €9.99 each way if booked three days in advance and the venue is 15 minutes walk from the station.

A tasty lunch, cooked with locally grown and prepared ingredients, is included in the price. For those who wish to stay over, there is accommodation on-site and in local B&B’s. On Sunday morning an optional outdoor ‘Meitheal’ offers a chance to contribute an hour and meet other residents.

The Ecovillage is located in the heart of Cloughjordan Co. Tipperary and received the Gold Award for best ‘Socio-Economic Project’ at the UN International Awards for Livable Communities in Xiamen, China in November 2013. It now has 110 residents living in 53 high-performance green homes; over 20,000 newly planted trees and Ireland’s largest renewable energy district heating system. Django’s Hostel is welcoming overnight guests, Cloughjordan Wood-Fired Bakery is producing award-winning breads and WeCreate, unique creative and technological workspace for eco-entrepreneurs, is open for business.
