Eileen Anderson “Unsung Hero Award 2015” to be announced on Monday night – Mayor Martin Lonergan

The winner of the Annual Eileen Anderson, “Unsung Hero Award, 2015” will be announced by the Mayor of Clonmel/Cahir Borough District, Cllr. Martin Lonergan at a reception in the Town Hall, Clonmel on the Eve of St. Patricks Day, Monday 16th March.

 

This Annual Award is in memory of Eileen Anderson who was deeply committed to Community Development, Social Inclusion and Volunteer efforts in her native Clonmel and which is supported and sponsored by the Local Authority each year in acknowledgement of Eileen’s contribution to the Community & Voluntary sector in Clonmel and County Tipperary was extended beyond the Town of Clonmel to include the wider Borough District.

 

Nominations were invited by the Mayor, Cllr Martin Lonergan, to all groups within the District to celebrate a local community volunteer as an opportunity to acknowledge the work, efforts and impact of a local volunteer in their community.

 

Commenting on the Award Mayor Lonergan said, “The criteria for assessing Nominations were based on four categories, Community-based Person, their level of Community Involvement, their Commitment to Community Life and their Commitment to Develop Community Spirit. 

 

I want to sincerely thank the Independent Adjudication Panel which was formed to process the Nominations.  This Panel comprised of Ms Dolores Fahy (Tipperary Civil Defence) Sgt Kieran O’Regan (An Garda Siochana) and Eamon Wynne (The Nationalist newspaper). The Panel has met and deliberated on the Nominations and the following five individuals have been invited to attend the forthcoming Awards Ceremony; Kitty Burke, Ardfinnan, Teddy Lee, Marlfield, Dermot O’Connor, Cahir,Kitty Peters, Kilmoyler and  Phyllis Whelan, Clonmel.”

 

Concluding, Mayor Lonergan added, “On the night, each of the five will be honoured and celebrated for their voluntary efforts in the community and one of the five will be awarded the title of Clonmel Borough District “Unsung Hero 2015”. The winner will be invited to accompany me and the other Dignitaries in this year’s Clonmel St. Patrick Day’s Parade and be present on the reviewing stand. I want to take the opportunity to wish all of the nominees the very best on Monday night and to warmly congratulate them on been nominated and short-listed.”
