With only a few days remaining before the exclusive Proms in the Park Concert takes place, preparations are in full swing for what promises to be a highlight of the summer for the people of Limerick.

To mark the 75th anniversary of the 12th Infantry Battalion, there will be a diversity of music performed by the Bands of the 1st Brigade.

The event is almost fully booked with a crowd of 4,000 expected to Limerick City’s People’s Park.

Guest soprano on the evening will be Limerick native Sarah Dolan. Sarah recently completed her Masters at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM) under the tutelage of Cesar Ulloa where she was a grateful recipient of the James H. Schwabacher, Jr. Scholarship.

Sarah began her studies at the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama, Ireland, where she received an honours degree in vocal performance. During her time there she was awarded the prestigious Thomas Moore Vocal Bursary as recognition of her ability in the classical Irish music field.

This award led her to be a featured artist on many of the recital stages throughout Ireland including an invitation to Dublin’s Mansion House to sing for the Mayor of Dublin.

The summer of 2012 Sarah was offered a place as a young artist at the Castleton Festival where she was selected to study with some of the world’s greatest musicians including Lorin Maazel, Nancy Gustafson and Marlena Malas. While there, she performed various opera and song repertoire.

In 2013, Sarah performed the role of Pamina as a young artist at Lyric Opera Studio of Weimar. She also performed as a soloist with the Thüringer Symphoniker Saalfeld-Rudolstadt under the baton of Oliver Weder.

Proms in the Park will feature the scores from some of the world’s most popular films, including Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean, ET, Mission Impossible and Indiana Jones. The concert will also feature the classic sounds of Glenn Miller, Frank Sinatra and George Gershwin.

Artisan foods will be provided by Country Choic, great coffee by Harpers Coffee, and some other familiar traders from the Limerick Milk Market will be there to add to the festivities.

Limerick National City of Culture Arts & Culture Manager, Sheila Deegan said:

“This is another fantastic opportunity for the family to get involved in another Limerick City of Culture event. Because of the line-up, which includes the familiar scores from our favourite films and some pop classics from the first half of the twentieth century, we can expect a magnificent turnout from every generation. And it’s not just the music; the atmosphere promises to be fantastic, as we will be expecting fun in the sun. It is a catch-all event for both kids and adults, which should be on everyone’s diary for their summer entertainment.”
