Next Week at Nenagh Arts Centre

FILM: ‘BLUE JASMINE- 8pm THURSDAY 5TH JUNE

After ‘Vicky Christina Barcelona’, ‘Midnight in Paris’, and ‘To Rome with Love’, Woody Allen returns to American soil with ‘Blue Jasmine’– a return that brings with it some of the sharp-edged wit that was perhaps absent from his overseas triptych.

Cate Blanchett is outstanding as Jasmine, a down-and-out New York socialite who, left destitute by her cheating husband’s financial misdemeanours, moves in with her adopted sister and her blue-collar boyfriend in San Francisco. Oscillating between cool haughtiness, and pill-popping anxiety, Blanchett is a neurotic Allen heroine par excellence.

Polished dialogue and serrating humour ensure this will go down as a favourite in the Allen canon.

Outrageously violent, time-twisting, and in love with language, PULP FICTION was widely considered the most influential American movie of the 1990s.

The Oscar-winning script intertwines stories, featuring Samuel L. Jackson, and John Travolta in the role that reignited his career, as hit men who have philosophical interchanges on various topics, including the French names for American fast food products.
