‘Beasts of the Southern Wild’ at Nenagh Arts Centre

Already hailed as a classic movie about childhood – ‘Beasts of the Southern Wild’ comes to Nenagh Arts Centre on Thursday May 23rd.

In a forgotten bayou community in the American southern states, cut off from the rest of the world by a sprawling levee, Hushpuppy, a six-year-old girl exists on the brink of orphanhood. Buoyed by childish optimism and an extraordinary imagination, she believes that the natural world is in balance with the universe until a fierce storm changes her reality. Desperate to repair her world in order to save her ailing father and sinking home, this tiny hero must learn to survive unstoppable catastrophes of epic proportions.

Quvenzhané Wallis, at age 9, became the youngest Best Actress Oscar nominee in history for her role as Hushpuppy. The New York Times said the film was a “blast of sheer, improbable joy, a boisterous, thrilling action movie with a protagonist who can hold her own…”

This amazing film proportions. — (C) Fox Searchlightscreens at 8 p.m. on Thursday 23rd May in the Arts Centre on Banba Square. Tickets are €7 on the door or online at www.nenagharts.com
