Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C.

Munster Gold for Ryan Brothers

The Club scored very highly at the recent Munster Juvenile Combined Events Championships in Cork I.T. on Sunday 28th April winning 2 gold & 2 bronze medals on the day. With 9 athletes in total taking part for the Club, some for the first time in this event, it was an enjoyable day of athletics as our athletes took part in hurdles, sprints, long jump, high jump, shot putt, turbo javelin, 600m & 800m. Current reigning Munster & National Indoor Combined Events Champions, David & Daniel Ryan showed their strength when they added another title to their athletics repertoire winning Munster gold in the Boys U/14 & Boys U/15 competitions. Both boys scored well all day in their 5 events (Hurdles, Long Jump, High Jump, Shot Putt & 800m) with David winning the Boys U/14 competition on 2049 points, 162 points clear of the silver medallist, Padraig Nash, Belgooly A.C. & Daniel claiming gold in the Boys U/15 competition winning on 3,424 points, 654 points clear of Sean Broderick, Youghal A.C. in 2nd place. Both Jack Fallon & Adam O’Dwyer also had a great competition winning bronze in the Boys U/14 & U/12 competitions. Jack, who also won National Indoor Bronze & Munster Indoor Silver in this event  added another bronze to his collection when he finished the competition on 1601 points. Adam, in his first outdoor combined events competition, won bronze in the Boys U/12 finishing on 1555 points, just 22 points behind the silver medallist, Conor Blake, St. John’s A.C. First timers, Dillon Ryan & Cillian McDonagh put in some great efforts in the Boys U/11 competition with each taking part in the 60m sprint, Long Jump, Turbo Javelin & 600m & they finished very close together after the 4 events with Dillon in 7th place on 705 points & Cillian in 8th place just 5 points behind on 700 points. Anna Ryan competed very well in the Girls U/12 competition in the 60m sprint, Long Jump, High Jump & Turbo Javelin but was unable to run the 800m. Even so, she finished a very good 17th place overall. Shane Burke made his debut into combined events & despite an injured knee, finished well in 8th place overall in the Boys U/13 competition on 896 points with Declan Ryan, another first timer, finishing strongly in 7th in the Boys U/15 competition on 1755 points. It was great to see such a strong turnout for the Club at these Championships, a great day of athletics for all.
