Record Performances from Ryan

Club athlete, Daniel Ryan gave a spectacular performance of athletics over the weekend at the Woodie’s DIY AAI National Juvenile Indoor Championships in AIT Arena, Athlone winning 3 gold medals & setting two new National Records in the Boys U/15 60m Hurdles & Long Jump. On the first day of the Championships, he gave a fine performance in the Boys U/15 60m sprint easily winning his heat in a time of 7.42sec & then going on to take gold & the National title in a new personal best time of 7.31, just outside the current National record of 7.2. On the second day, he had a spellbinding day of performances when he won the Boys U/15 Long Jump breaking the existing record of 5.90m set in 1997 by Barry Hazley, Mid Ulster twice with his jumps of 5.95m & 6.14m (Daniel also holds the Boys U/14 Indoor Long Jump record which he set in 2012 with his jump of 5.64m). He then went on to win the 60m Hurdles breaking the existing record of 8.83 set in 2004 by Stephen Walsh, Castlebar A.C. in his heat with his time of 8.7 & again in the final in a new National Record of 8.5.

The AIT Arena in Athlone also brought another gold medal to the Club on Day 2 when David Ryan had a wonderful victory in the Boys U/14 Long Jump taking gold & the National title well clear of the competition with his jump of 5.06m, the only jump over 5m. He also finished 8th overall in the Boys U/14 Shot Putt with a throw of 8.89m & was 7th in the final of the 60m sprint in a time of 8.22, a personal best for him. Another medal winning performance for the Club came from Shane Burke on Day 1 when he put in a great performance in the Boys U/13 Long Jump to win National Bronze with a jump of 4.31m. He also finished 6th in the 60m sprint heat, just missing out on a place in the final. Jack Ryan also competed in the Boys U/13 competition where he placed 4th with his jump of 4.29m & he was 4th in the 60m Hurdles just missing out on a place in the final. Jack Fallon gave a great account of himself in the Boys U/14 800m when he placed 2nd in his heat & then went on to come 4th in a very fast final. Training for the forthcoming Outdoor Season will be held every Tuesday & Friday evenings in Templemore Track commencing on Tuesday 2nd April from 7pm to 8pm. New athletes & help always welcome.

The Turbo Javelin Workshop will now take place on Wednesday 27th March in Borrisokane at 7.30pm with registration from 7pm. Workshop will be given by Louis Wildenboer & is for coaches & athletes aged 7+. See further details on our website at www.moycarkeycoolcrooac.com

Congratulations to Ciara Mockler who came 2nd overall at the Home Cook Baking Games National Final on Wednesday 20th March.
