National Titles for Ryan Brothers

 

The Woodie’s DIY AAI Juvenile Combined Events Championships took place in the newly built & magnificent surroundings of AIT Arena, Athlone on Saturday 26th January. Tipperary had 3 medal winners on the day with brothers, David & Daniel Ryan, Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. taking gold & National titles in the Boys U/14 & U/15 competitions & their team-mate, Jack Fallon winning bronze in the Boys U/14 competition. Daniel Ryan was the clear winner of the highly competitive Boys U/15 competition taking the National title on 3,261 points, 622 points clear of David McDonald, Menapians A.C. in 2nd place. He won the 60m Hurdles in 8.71, the Long Jump (5.98m) & the Shot Putt (12.85m), was 2nd in the High Jump (1.66m) & 4th in the 800m (2.29.59). One of the most exciting competitions of the day was the Boys U/14 battle between David Ryan & Padraig Nash, Belgooly A.C. Padraig got the off to a great start by winning the 60m hurdles in 9.92, with David second in 10.27. David won the High Jump (1.48m) & the Long Jump (4.71m) before finishing second to Thomas Mullen (Lifford A.C.) in the Shot Putt. Padraig finished just ahead of David in the final event, the 800m and when the points were totalled it was David who was the winner by a solitary point from Padraig. Jack Fallon also competed very well winning bronze in the same competition finishing on 1972 points, 244 points behind David, giving Munster athletes a 1,2,3 in that event. Jack’s scores were 60mH (11.35), Long Jump (4.52m), High Jump (1.39m), Shot Putt (7.69m) & 800m (2.29.06). Deirbhile Ryan, Nenagh Olympic A.C. also took part in the Youth Girls competition but retired early from the competition.

Angela McCann, Clonmel A.C. – Master Women’s Cross Country

Nenagh Olympic A.C. – Best Overall Munster Juvenile Indoor Club

 

Trials for the County Tipperary Community Games Cross Country Teams will be held in Thurles Crokes Complex on Sunday 10th February 2013 at 2pm. Entries will be taken on the day. Events that teams are required for are U/13 1200m (Panel of 10 in total (5 boys & 5 girls)), Boys & Girls U/12 Mixed Distance Relay (Panel of 6 for each) & Boys & Girls U/14 Mixed Distance Relay (Panel of 6 for each). National Community Games Finals take place on 24th to 26th May 2013. Details at www.tipperarycommunitygames.com or www.communitygames.ie. County Community Games Athletic Finals will take place in Templemore Track on Sunday 23rd June.

Wed 6th – Sports Psychology Workshop for Senior athletes, coaches & parents in LIT, Thurles from 7pm to 9pm. Charge of €5 per person & workshop will be given by Canice Kennedy.

Thurs 7th – AVIVA Munster Schools Cross Country Championships in Cork I.T. at 12.30pm.

Sat 9th & Sun 10th – Munster Juvenile U/9 to U/12 Indoor Championships in Nenagh Indoor Stadium. Good luck to all our athletes who are taking part.

Wed 13th – Hurdles Workshop for athletes aged 12+ & coaches from 7pm to 9pm in Moyne with Colin Byrne, RDO.

Sat 23rd & Sun 24th – Munster Juvenile U/14 to U/19 Indoor Championships in Nenagh Indoor Stadium.

Wed 27th – Sprints Workshop for athletes aged 12+ & coaches from 7pm to 9pm in Moyne with Shane McCormack.
