Munster Title for Carey


The Munster Juvenile Uneven Age Cross Country Championships took place in Carriganore, WIT, Waterford on Sunday 11th November. Stand-out performances for Tipperary on the day were from Michael Carey, Clonmel A.C. who took the Boys U/19 Munster title & Darren Dunne, Nenagh Olympic A.C. who won Bronze in the Boys U/17 race. Tipperary athletes won 13 individual medals, 3 sets of Inter-Club medals (1 Gold, 2 Bronze) & 5 sets of Inter-County medals ( 1 Silver & 4 Bronze).

In the Inter-Club competitions, Clonmel A.C. won Gold & a Munster title in the Girls U/17 with their team of Orlaith Moynihan, Laura Tobin, Aoife Laste & Megan O’Brien, Thurles Crokes A.C. won Bronze in the Boys U/13 with their team of Fred Crowley, Eoin Purcell, Kieren Moloney & Kevin Bracken & Clonmel A.C. took Bronze in the Boys U/19 with their team of Michael Carey, Evan Egan, Aidan Cremmin & Jack Allen.


In the Inter-County competitions, Tipperary won Silver in Girls U/17 (Orlaith Moynihan, Ciara Cummins, Nenagh Olympic A.C., Laura Tobin, Aoife Laste, Megan O’Brien & Orla Healy, Moyne A.C.) & Bronze in the Girls U/9 (Aoife Dwyer, Moyne A.C., Kate Burke, Moyglass A.C., Aoibhin O’Grady, Carrick-On-Suir A.C., Gretta Nugent, Clonmel A.C., Rachel Cleary, Moyne A.C. & Milla Harte, Newport A.C.); Girls U/13 (Emma Fagan, Newport A.C., Moya Whelan, Clonmel A.C., Roisin Daly, Moyne A.C., Alannah Deering, Nenagh Olympic A.C., Thea Curtin, Newport A.C. & Muireann O’Connell, Clonmel A.C.); Boys U/13 (Jack Fallon, Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C., John O’Dwyer, Carrick-On-Suir A.C., Fred Crowley, Thurles Crokes A.C., Eoin Purcell, Thurles Crokes A.C., Martin Kehoe, Carrick-On-Suir A.C. & Jerry Hayes, Dundrum A.C.) & Boys U/19 (Michael Carey, Evan Egan, Aidan Cremmins & Jack Allen). All medal winners now go forward to represent Munster, Tipperary & their Clubs at the National Juvenile Uneven Age Cross Country Championships in Adamstown, Co. Sun 18th – County Juvenile “B” & Novice “B” Cross Country Championships at 12 noon at Lisheen Mine Road, Moyne.  Three to score on a team & the age groups & distances for Girls & Boys are: U/10 600m, U/12 1500m, U/14 2500m & U/16 3500m. Any athlete who has won an individual or team medal in the County Even & Uneven Ages or a Munster individual or team medal is ineligible to compete in the “B” Championships.

Sun 25thMunster Multi-Events Development Squad in Nenagh Indoor Stadium. 

Sun 25th – National Juvenile Even Age & Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships in Tattersalls, Rathoath, Co. Meath.


Sun 2nd – Munster Juvenile “B” & Masters Cross Country Championships in Newmarket On Fergus, Co. Clare.

Wed 5th – County Tipperary Secondary Schools Cross Country Championships at 11am in Thurles Crokes Complex.

      Sun 9th – National Juvenile Uneven Age & Novice Cross Country Championships in     Adamstown, Co. Wexford.

      Sun 16th – County Senior & Junior Cross Country Championships at 11am at      Goold’s Cross.


Thurs 10th – County Tipperary Athletics Board AGM in Horse & Jockey Hotel at   7pm.

Sun 13th – Munster Juvenile Relays, Junior & Senior Cross Country Championships in Limerick Racecourse.


Munster Star Awards Banquet 2012
This Banquet will be held on Saturday 26th January 2013 in the Rathkeale House Hotel, Rathkeale, Co. Limerick. Tickets cost €35 each & can be purchased from Mossie Woulfe & Anne Cullinane. Munster Convention 2013
The Munster Convention will be held on Friday 1st February 2013 at 7.30pm in Ennis, Co. Clare. Mooreabbey Milers A.C. Sports Talks
One of the County’s newest Clubs, Mooreabbey Milers A.C. are hosting a number of information nights on Triathlon, Orienteering & Sports Nutrition in the coming weeks. The talks are open to the public & take place in Galbally Community Hall at 8.30pm on the following Friday nights: November 16th – Triathlon by Liam Butler, November 23rd – Orienteering by Brian Flannely & December 7th – Sports Nutrition by Ann Maher. Upcoming Coaching Workshops

A Race Walking Masterclass will take place at Cork IT Track on Saturday 17th November. This promises to be a unique event as in attendance will be Olympic athlete Robert Heffernan. Don’t miss out on the chance to learn more about Race Walking from Robert Heffernan, Liam O Reilly and renowned Spanish coach Jacinto Garson, our special international guest coach. This master class is open to all athletes and coaches aged 10+. Athletes from clubs/schools all over Ireland are welcome to attend.

10am: Registration at CIT Track in the main athletics stand and the cost is €5 per person.

10.30 -11.30am: Theory session on how to coach kids and how they built a successful Racewalking school in Guadix Spain.

11.30am-12.30pm: Practical session on the track with Jacinto Garzon (Spanish Coach), Robert Heffernan (Irish Olympic Athlete) and Liam O Reilly (Irish Olympic team coach).

12.30-1pm: Q&A session with Robert Heffernan for athletes while coaches talk with Jacinto Garzon and Liam O Reilly.

A Cross-Country Squad Day will also take place at Cork IT Track on Saturday 17th November. This promises to be a unique event as in attendance 3.55 miler and former NCAA star David McCarthy. The cost for attending is EUR5 person. Details below for the event:

Munster XC Squad Day
Following on from a very successful 1st Munster XC Squad day at Banna Beach in September, a 2nd Munster Squad Cross-Country session will take place on Saturday 17th November at Cork IT Track. This is open to all endurance athletes in Munster that have achieved the following criteria:

1) 2012 ages u14 (born 1999) – u20 (born 1993)

2) Have finished top 20 in a Munster ‘A’ Cross-Country Championship in 2011 or 2012 in school or club championships

3) Have finished top 5 in a Munster ‘A’ Outdoor T&F Championship distance event (800m/1500m/3000m/5000m/Steeplechase)

All athletes are encouraged to attend and also their personal coaches. Athletes should meet at Cork IT Track stand at 10.00am sharp for registration and bring €5 with them. It will be a great privilege to have one of Irelands greatest distance runners in attendance on the day in 3.55 miler David McCarthy from Waterford.

The timetable for the XC squad session is as follows:

10.00am- Registration Cork IT Track Stand
10.20am- Athletes split into various groups
10.30am- Warm up
11.15am- Start of session on Track
12.30pm- Warm Down
12.45pm- Q&A session with David McCarthy in Track Stand
1.15pm- Finish
