Play and Learn Playschool Clonmel raise €10,160 for meningitis charity

Play and Learn Playschool, Clonmel in Tipperary organised an event called Harry’s Day on 24th September in memory of a local toddler who contracted bacterial meningitis in July 2012 and sadly passed away at the age of 23 months.

Diane McConnell, Ireland Manager commented:  “A huge thank you to Play and Learn Playschool who raised over €10,000 for us in memory of Harry. It is only through the generosity and the hard work of the public and local businesses that we are able to fund research, raise awareness and support those who have already been affected by meningitis and septicaemia. “

Meningitis Research Foundation estimates that there are around 200-300 cases of meningitis and septicaemia (the blood poisoning form of the disease), every year in the Republic of Ireland. This means two deaths will occur every month and further four people are left with severe after effects, such as brain damage, hearing loss and amputations.
