Tipperary Ladies Gaelic Football Notes.

All-Ireland Intermediate Championship.

Tipperary 0-15 Cavan 2-11

Tipperary’s involvement in this year’s championship ended when they were defeated by Cavan on Tues evening last 22 Aug in Mountmellick Sarsfields G.A.A grounds. Cavan may have won by two points but this Tipperary team can be proud of the effort they put in on the evening. Cavan had defeated Tipperary in Templemore two weeks previous in what was a very lack lustre display by Tipperary. This certainly could not be said of this team as on the night they fought tooth and nail for every ball. Some missed goal chances may have cost them on the night but Tipperary lost nothing in defeat. The score board may have shown a Cavan win but for this team their management team and supporters of Ladies Gaelic Football in Tipperary it will be classed as a well-deserved Moral Victory and presents a very bright future for this Intermediate team for 2013.

At the start of the league back in February in the first round against Kerry Tipperary found it difficult to field a team but as time went on Sean O Donovan and his back room team have been building a team nice and steadily which will be the future of Tipperary football. Seven games in the League, two in the Munster championship and five in the All-Ireland championship was certainly a busy time for this team. Our thanks to all the players that committed to this team they can be proud of their commitment to the Tipperary jersey. To the team management of Sean O Donovan manager, Eammon Ryan trainer and Una O Brien selector for a wonderful effort at what was not an easy undertaking but they can take heart in the knowledge that they have set a good foundation for Tipperary football for the future. Kay Lyons as administrator for the team worked tireless throughout the year to have everything in place for this team. Elaine Powell as phio for the team had the girls in tip top shape for all their games.

Team Helen Kennedy (Cappa white), Cathreina Walsh (Moycarkey), Jennifer Grant ( Brian Borus), Sinead Delahunty (Foxrock Cabintelly), Katie Lyne ( Moyle Rovers), Samantha Lambert (Ardfinnan), Bernie Ryan (Upperchurch), Aoife Ryan (Cappawhite), Barbra Ryan (Moyle Rovers), Aine Staunton (Aherlow), Sheelagh Carew (Cappawhite), Siobhan Condon (Aherlow), Edit Carroll (Galtee Rovers), Edel Hanley (Aherlow),Gillian O Brian (Moyle Rovers).Subs used Caoimhe Boles (Clonmel Commercials), Breda Feeney (Ballyporeen), Grainne O Gorman (Templetouhy), Shauna Ryan (Ballymacarby).

Sinead’s hails from the parish of Fethard.

Under 16 All-Ireland

Cavan 4-11 Tipperary 5-6

Tipperary travelled to Banagher with high expectation of lifting a second under 16 all-Ireland titles in three years. In 2009 Libby Grogan Derry Peters and Connor O Dwyer guided Tipperary to a first under 16 All-Ireland since 1983. After breezing through Munster and a very big win over Kildare Tipperary were hot favourites to lift this crown.  Tipperary were slow to settle and did not register their first score until the 8min a point from centre field player Megan Burke by which time Cavan had three points on the board. Mid-way through the half Tipperary were awarded a penalty which Ashling Mc Carthy dully converted and she followed it up with a pointed  free. Cavan then had a dominant spell and scored a number of points. Tipperary finished the half well with two goals the first from Ashling Mc Carthy who was tormenting the Cavan back line and an Emmer Bartley goal from a rebound after good work by Sara Ryan. Half time score Tipperary 3-3 Cavan 0-10. With a two point lead and a fresh breeze at our backs for the second half our hopes were high of a win. The Cavan forwards were putting a lot of pressure on the Tipperary backs and sent a 12 min penalty wide. Maria Curly replaced Megan Bourke and went to full forward with Ashling Mc Carthy going to centre field. Cavan scored four goals in the second half one from a penalty which Keely Halpin saved only for an in rushing forward to put it into the net. Sinead Buckley scored a point on the 20 min our first score of the second half. Ashling Mc Carty threw us a life line when she scored a wounderful invidual goal two min later. A Sinead Buckley goal followed a point by Ashling Mc Carthy to give us a grand stand finish. Try as we could we could not get the scores to hail Cavan in and our last score was a pointed free from Ashling Mc Carthy. Final score Cavan 4-11 to Tipperary’s 5-6.

The management  team of Tony Fox (Manager) Martin Halpin Karl Mc Carthy Toss Condon Frances Ryan Garry  Hallinan and Caroline Cadell had a long year and out thanks to them .Team Keely Halpin (Cahir), Betty Barlow (Clonmel Commercials), Hazel Shanahan (Moyle Rovers), Maureen Murphy (Brian Borus), Maria Kinane (Moycarkey),Niamh Mackey (Clonmel Com),Brid Condon(Aherlow), Megan Burke (Cahir), Laura Dillon(Ardfinnan),Sara Everard (Moyle Rovers ), Ashling Mc Carthy(Cahir), Roisin Howard (Cahir),Sara Ryan (Clonmel Com), Sinead Buckley Cappawhite), Eimear Bartley( S na B)   Subs used Maria Curley (Templemore), Emma Buckley(Cahir)Saoirse Mc Geever (Clonmel)
