Tipperary Ladies Gaelic Football Notes

County Under 14 Team
Our under 14 team started their 2012 campaign in very positive style when they had a good win overLimerick in Lattin.Tipperary lost the services of their captain and centre half back Aoife Corcoran through injury before the game and as well as some other squad members who were not available. Management re-jigged there starting fifteen before the start to good effect. Sinead Buckley started at Centre Half Back and was a tower of strength stopping wave after wave ofLimerick attacks. Our backs and centre field were well on top of their opponents and the good supply of balls was soon turned into scores by our forwards. First half goals from Orla O Dwyer  Michelle Mc Meel and points from Jean Kelly Aoibhe O Shea Caoimhe Condon  and Michelle Mc Meel gave us a half time lead ofTipperary 2-5 toLimerick 1-1
Limerick started the second half in whirl wind fashion andTipperary had to batten down the hatches to stem the tide. Limerick scored a goal after ten minutes which was to be their only score of the second half. Tipperary slowly took back control of the game and added  goal from Micheele Mc   Meel  and points from Jean Kelly  and Caoimhe Condon. This Tipperary team surprised a lot of their supporters with the level of skill they displayed. Their backs were very tenacious and worked very well as a tight unit not allowing Limerick to develop a pattern of play. Our centre field were industrious and supplied nice clever ball to a free moving forward line. Our forwards are not over big but interlinked very well to create scoring chances.

Bord Gais Energy Div. 2 National League Round 4Tipperary V Mayo
Tipperary made the long trip to Mayo Abbey to take on league toppers Mayo in the fourth round game of the league. Tipperary travelled without first choice players Aine Staunton and Claire Carroll so management had to move players around to compensate for this. Tipperary were first to score when a Gillian O Brien point from play. Mayo responded with a goal and a point however Tipperary were not overawed by Mayos reputation and Kelly Hackett found the back if the Mayo net after a very good passing movement. Gillian O Brien was causing consternation for the Mayo back line and Tipperary scored five more points to leave the half time score Tipperary 1-6 Mayo 2-4 The second half saw Mayo race into a seven point lead but Tipperary were not giving up and Gillian O Brien lashed the ball into the back of the Mayo net and once again it was game on. Points from Jennifer Grant and Edit Carroll set this game up for a nail biting finish. Tipperary were awarded a penalty with ten minutes to play when Alaine Kennedy was pulled down in front of an open goal. A well stroke shot was saved by the Mayo keeper but Tipperary’s heads did not drop and they kept attacking the Mayo goal. Try as they did the scores just would not come even though we had the lion share of position and the Mayo supporters were baying for the ref to blow the final whistle. Well done to all our players and management for a great effort we may not have won the game but the respect we received from the Mayo players and supporters will certainly driver Tipperary football to a higher level
