Golden Boy Ryan Shines in Munster

The Munster Juvenile U/14 to U/19 Indoor Championships were held in Nenagh Indoor Stadium on Saturday 3rd & Sunday 4th March. With Club athletes having competed so well in the Munster Juvenile U/9 to U/13 Indoor Championships at the end of February winning 9 medals in total, the expectations were high for our two athletes taking part this weekend, Ciara Mockler & Daniel Ryan. And they certainly did us proud winning 6 medals between them. Ciara took part in the Girls U/16 Shot Putt on Sunday & she had an excellent competition winning Munster Silver with a great throw of 9.57m. Daniel Ryan had an outstanding Munster Championships capturing Munster titles & gold medals in all his 5 events. As if that was not a great enough achievement, he also broke 3 Munster records over the weekend, twice in 2 events. On Saturday, Daniel took part in his first event, the Boys U/14 60m Hurdles where he broke the Munster record in his heat with a time of 9.54sec & then went on to win gold in the final & break the record a second time running 9.32sec. The previous record was set in 2011 by Michael Quilligan, Nenagh Olympic A.C. in a time of 9.59. In his second event, the Boys U/14 Shot Putt, he went on to throw a personal best of 12.41m winning gold & in his final event of the day, he won gold & set a personal best of 1.50m in the High Jump. Daniel was back in action again on Sunday with his Long Jump where he broke the existing record of 5.13m set by Jack Murphy, Leevale A.C. in 2011, with his first round jump of 5.27m. He then went on to break the record a second time jumping 5.38m in his 3rd round jump winning gold & another Munster title. His final event of the day was the 60m Sprint where he won gold & broke the existing record (a time of 8.09sec set by Nicholas Twumasi, Marian A.C. in 2008) in his final when he ran a very quick 7.99sec.  A fantastic achievement for Daniel who now holds 6 Munster records in total (Boys U/13 Indoor 60m Hurdles, Boys U/13 Outdoor Long Jump & Boys U/13 Outdoor Multi-Events, all set in 2011). Both Daniel & Ciara now join Ciara’s brother Sean (Boys U/13 Shot Putt), Daniel’s brother Jack (Boys U/12 60m, Long Jump & Shot) & Jack Fallon (Boys U/12 600m & Long Jump) as the group of athletes who will represent the Club, the County & Munster at the National Juvenile Indoor Championships in Nenagh Indoor Stadium on Saturday 24th & Sunday 25th March & we wish them all the very best of luck.
