Blazing Bikers Scottish Charity Challenge

The Blazing Bikers Motorcycling Club are taking to the Scottish highlands on the May Bank holiday weekend in a bid to raise funds for people who are blind or vision impaired. The Scottish challenge is the brainchild of guide dog owner, Billy Shanahan from Thurles, Co. Tipperary who organises the event each year with the help of his daughter, Katriona.

“The Scottish Challenge 2012”, is the Blazing Bikers 5th annual biking trip. Billy Shanahan says, “We have been very lucky and enjoyed great support, with many participants coming back year after year.  This year, we hope to gather at least 100 biking enthusiasts to participate and support our fundraising for our two beneficiary charities, namely, Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind and the National Council of the Blind.”
The four day, 1,200km trip from May 4th – 7th journeys from Belfast to Cairnryan, from Glasgow to Inverness and onward through some of Scotland’s most beautiful countryside.
Katriona says, “We’ve been organising events for the past 16 years now and have raised €600,000 for charities who support people living with sight loss. I know what a difference these organisations make to people living with sight loss and it’s been a privilege to be able to do something to support them. My dad recently got his 5th guide dog, Bess, from the Irish Guide Dogs. Bess and his previous guide dogs have made such a difference to his quality of life. He can get about safely and independently and that’s just so valuable. This is why we both want to do as much as we can to help more people living with sight loss get the services they need to enjoy an improved quality of life.”
It costs €550 per biker and €350 per pillion sharing to participate in The Scottish Challenge.  Costs included 3 nights B&B and Gala Dinner. To participate in this exciting biking event, please contact Katriona on 087 410 6861 or e-mail Final bookings are on the 30th March 2012.
