Munster Gold for Jack & Deirbhile Ryan

It was a busy weekend of athletics in Nenagh Indoor Stadium on Saturday 11th & Sunday 12th February with both Munster & County events taking place. On Saturday 11th February, the Munster Juvenile Indoor Combined Events & Inter-Club Relays took place. With a lot of County Clubs opting to take part in either the Combined Events or the Relays, Tipperary athletes did very well winning  2 gold, 2 silver & 1 bronze in the Combined Events competition. Jack Ryan, Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. was our youngest medal winner taking gold & a Munster title in the Boys U/12 competition while Deirbhile Ryan, Nenagh Olympic A.C. maintained her winning form taking gold & a Munster title in the Girls U/16 competition. Both Jack Fallon, Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. & Kelly Ann Doyle, Carrick-On-Suir A.C. won Silver medals in the Boys U/13 & Girls U/16 competitions while Kelly Ann’s sister Aoife won Bronze in the Girls U/13 competition. Other Tipperary athletes who performed well were Shane Burke, Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C., 4th in Boys U/12; Brian Naughton, Nenagh Olympic A.C., 6th in Boys U/12; Sean Mockler, Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. 5th in Boys U/13 & Oran Mulhall, Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C., 7th in Boys U/13. The AVIVA Munster Schools Cross Country Championships took place on Thursday 9th February in Cork I.T. In the Minor Girls team competition, the Ursuline, Thurles finished in 3rd place while in the Minor Boys competition, Killian O’Dwyer, Thurles CBS finished in 3rd place with his team finishing in 2nd place overall in the team competition. In the Junior Girls competition, Tipperary had 4 athletes in the top 10 with Eimear Loughman, Ursuline Thurles in 2nd place, Karen Kennedy, Presentation Thurles in 4th, Aoife Deering, St. Mary’s Nenagh in 6th & Laura Costello, Ursuline, Thurles in 10th place. The Ursuline, Thurles took gold in the team competition with the Presentation, Thurles winning Silver. In the Junior Boys competition, Thurles CBS won gold with the High School Clonmel winning Silver. In the Inter-Girls competition, Tipperary athletes were to the fore with 3 finishing in the top 10. Orlaith Moynihan, Loreto Clonmel finished 3rd , Ciara Cummins, Ursuline, Thurles was 8th & Eileen Rafter, Ursuline Thurles was 10th with the Loreto, Clonmel taking gold on 37 points & the Ursuline, Thurles taking Silver on 39 points in the team competition. In the Senior Boys competition, Tipperary athletes recorded a 1 & 2 when Sean Tobin & Michael Carey, High School Clonmel took gold & silver with the High School, Clonmel winning Silver in the team competition. The County Secondary Schools Cross Country Championships will take place on Wednesday 22nd February in Thurles Crokes Complex on the Racecourse Road, Thurles, opposite the TRBDI. The programme will commence at 11.30am.
Programme & Order of events is as follows:
Minor Girls –  Under 14 on the 1st July 2012  – 1200 meters
Minor Boys  – Under 14 on the 1st July 2012  – 1200 meters
Junior Girls  – Under 15 on the 1st July 2012  – 1200 meters
Junior Boys  – Under 15 on the 1st July 2012  – 1500 meters
Intermediate Girls  – Under 17 on the 1st July 2012  – 1500 meters
Intermediate Boys  – Under 17 on the 1st July 2012  – 2000 meters
Senior Girls  – Under 19 on the 1st January 2012  – 2000 meters
Senior Boy  – Under 19 on the 1st January 2012  – 3000 meters
Individual Awards: Medals will be awarded to the first three individuals in each race.
Scoring Team Awards.: For Boys it is four to score, and for Girls it is three to score.
Medals will be awarded to the scoring members of the first three teams. A set of bronze medals will also be awarded to the fourth team in the Minor, Junior, and Intermediate Boys and Girls races.
A Perpetual Shield will be presented to the best overall Boys and Best Overall Girls school. There will also be a Perpetual Shield for the best combined Girls and Boys School.The scoring for this is as follows: 1st Team 4 points, 2nd Team 2 points, 3rd Team 1 point.

Just a quick reminder of some upcoming Workshops taking place in Tipperary in February.

Wed 15th Feb Hurdles Workshop at Moyne AC 7-9pm with Munster Performance Squad Coach Shane McCormack. Open to all athletes & coaches aged 12+.

Wed 29th Feb Strength & Conditioning Workshop at Dundrum AC 7-9pm with Cork based expert Mark McManus. Mark is a former international sprinter, currently works with the Cork Senior Hurlers and has worked with the Munster Rugby team also. Open to all athletes & coaches aged 14+.

For all workshops you simply come along on the night and pay €5 at registration between 6.30-6.55pm. All workshops start at 7pm sharp so please can anyone attending try to be on time.

Community Games Cross Country Relays
The County Tipperary Community Games Trials for the Cross Country Relays will take place on Friday 23rd March at7pm in Thurles Crokes Complex. Entries are on the night & races are for Girls & Boys U/13 1200m (first 5 boys & 5 girls over the line will represent the County), U/12 Boys & U/12 Girls 600m (the first 6 in each race will form the County Relay Panel with a team of 4 to run), U/14 Boys & U/14 Girls 600m (the first 6 in each race will form the County Relay Panel with a team of 4 to run). All competitors must be under the age specified on31st July 2012. All finalists go forward to compete at Weekend 1 of the National Community Games Finals in AIT, Athlone on Saturday 26th &Sunday 27th May 2012.
