The Woodie’s DIY AAI Juvenile “B” Cross Country Championships & Inter-County Relays took place in Lough Key, Boyle, Co. Roscommon on Sunday last, 5th February. Results not available at time of going to press but will be posted on www.tipperaryathletics.com when available, click here

The East Munster Schools Cross Country Championships took place on Thursday 26th January. In the Senior Boys competition, Tipperary athletes recorded a 1, 2 & 3 when Sean Tobin & Michael Carey, High School Clonmel took gold & silver with Seamus Hogan, St. Joseph’s CBS Nenagh winning Bronze. The High School Clonmel also won gold in the team event. In the Inter-Boys race, Darren Dunne, St. Joseph’s, Borrisoleigh, finished in 4th place with Killian Cullagh, Nenagh Vocational School finishing 7th. In the team competition, the High School Clonmel finished 2nd with Thurles CBS capturing Bronze. In the Junior Boys competition, Tipperary athletes were very prominent with 9 athletes in the top 12. Patrick Cleary, High School Clonmel, Rory Purcell & Sean Moloney, Thurles CBS & Aaron Egan, High School Clonmel finished 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th. In the team competition, Thurles CBS won gold, the High School Clonmel silver & Carrick CBS was in 4th place. In the Minor Boys race, Killian O’Dwyer, Thurles CBS took gold with his team –mate, Michael Purcell finishing 5th & their school capturing gold in the team competition & the High School, Clonmel finishing 4th. In the Senior Girls competition, Shauna Hayden, Ursuline, Thurles finished 5th with her school winning Silver in the team competition. In the Inter-Girls competition, Tipperary athletes were again to the fore with 8 finishing in the top 12. Ciara Cummins, Ursuline, Thurles finished 2nd, Orlaith Moynihan, Loreto Clonmel was 3rd & Eileen Rafter, Ursuline Thurles was 4th with the Ursuline, Thurles taking gold in the team competition & the Loreto, Clonmel in the silver medal position. In the Junior Girls race, Tipperary had 6 athletes in the top 12 with Eimear Loughman, Ursuline Thurles in 2nd place & Karen Kennedy, Presentation Thurles in 3rd. The Ursuline, Thurles took gold in the team competition with the Presentation, Thurles winning Silver. In the Minor Girls competition, Shonagh Cleary, Presentation, Thurles finished in 8th place with the Ursuline, Thurles in 4th place & the Presentation, Thurles in 6th place in the team competition. The 2nd Munster Regional Squad day of the 2011/2012 season took place on Sunday 5th February at Nenagh Indoor Stadium. Tipperary was well represented by athletes in all age groups with the Development Squad for U14-U20 athletes taking place in the morning and the Performance Squad for selected U17-U20 athletes in the afternoon. Br John Dooley acted as guest speaker for the day speaking about various topics beneficial to all the athletes and their development. The 3rd training day takes place on Saturday 10th March at the University of Limerick.

Just a quick reminder of some upcoming Workshops taking place in Tipperary in February.

– Wed 8th Feb Hurdles Workshop at Moyne AC 7-9pm with Munster Performance Squad Coach Chris Regan. Open to all athletes & coaches aged 12+.

– Wed 15th Feb Hurdles Workshop at Moyne AC 7-9pm with Munster Performance Squad Coach Shane McCormack. Open to all athletes & coaches aged 12+.

– Wed 29th Feb Strength & Conditioning Workshop at Dundrum AC 7-9pm with Cork based expert Mark McManus. Mark is a former international sprinter, currently works with the Cork Senior Hurlers and has worked with the Munster Rugby team also. Open to all athletes & coaches aged 14+.

For all workshops you simply come along on the night and pay €5 at registration between 6.30-6.55pm. All workshops start at 7pm sharp so please can anyone attending try to be on time.

Please note the following for the Munster Indoor Juvenile Combined Events & Inter-County Relays in Nenagh Indoor Stadium on Saturday 11th February 2012:-
Relays U/9 – U/19 Boys and Girls.
U/9 – U/13 run 4 X 100m      U/14 – U/19  run 4 X 200m
There will be no relays on the 25/26 February or the 3/4 March as these dates are for individual events only.
The Multi Events are as follows:-
U12 Boys & Girls do Long Jump, High Jump, Shot and 800M
U 13 – U 19 Boys & Girls do 60m Hurdles, Long Jump, High Jump, Shot and 800M.
Relays and Multi events all commence at 11 am sharp.  Even age relays in the morning and uneven ages in the afternoon. There will definitely be no entries on the day. Munster Regulations 2012 can be found at www.munsterathletics.com.

Please note the following in relation to our County Indoor Championships on Sunday 12th February & Saturday 10th March:-

Day 1 Feb 12th – U.13 to Jnr – Starting Time 12 noon

Hurdles events for every age group.

Athletes must compete in their own age group U.12 & U.13 with U.14 moving up to U.15 etc in individual events. In Relay Races athletes may move up two age groups (i.e. U.11, 12 and 13 may be on the U.13 team except where a club has entered more than one team in any age group then they may only compete on one team.

Day 2 March 10th – Indoor Games U.9 to U.12 – Starting Time 12noon

U.9,10,11 and U.12 non medal winners from Day 1 compete in their own age group in

individual events.  Relays in these younger ages (U.9 to U.12)  may only move up one age group.

Dates of Birth and Reg Numbers

All athletes must be under age for the entire year ending 31st December, 2012.

Footwear & Singlets

The choice of footwear is optional, maximum length of spikes allowed is 5mm.  Athletes must wear Club singlets.

The rules of Nenagh Indoor Arena must be obeyed at all time by Officials and Supporters. Timetables for both days can be found at www.tipperaryathletics.com.

Community Games Cross Country Relays
The County Tipperary Community Games Trials for the Cross Country Relays will take place on Friday 23rd March at 7pm in Thurles Crokes Complex. Entries are on the night & races are for Girls & Boys U/13 1200m (first 5 boys & 5 girls over the line will represent the County), U/12 Boys & U/12 Girls 600m (the first 6 in each race will form the County Relay Panel with a team of 4 to run), U/14 Boys & U/14 Girls 600m (the first 6 in each race will form the County Relay Panel with a team of 4 to run). All competitors must be under the age specified on 31st July 2012. All finalists go forward to compete at Weekend 1 of the National Community Games Finals in AIT, Athlone on Saturday 26th & Sunday 27th May 2012.
