Dromineer Literary Festival to Celebrate The Year of Craft

As 2011 is the Year of Craft, the festival exhibition this year, Craft to Art, and will celebrate local crafts and artisans.

Reggie Goodbody is a Boatbuilder and Luthier.  Reggie’s violin’s will be on display, at their various stages of construction including some of the tools of his craft.

John Hanly & Co. Ltd, Nenagh.  Swatches of cloth and wool, as well as some of the tools used for weaving will be on loan from John Hanly & Co. Ltd Woollen Mills’ museum.  To complement this part of the exhibition, David Shaw-Smith’s documentary ‘Hands’ on the weaving industry will be available to view throughout the weekend at Neddy’s Cottage in the village.

Gerardine Wisdom is a Photographer, a Teacher and a Rush Work Artist.  Gerardine received a 1st for her rushwork at the RDS this year.  Her rushwork bags and small sculptures, will be on display in the exhibition space upstairs at Lough Derg Yacht Club.  Gerardine’s larger sculptures will be on view as one enters the clubhouse.

Dick Gough is a sculptor.  His best known and much admired work is of bog oak sculptures.  These pieces are fashioned into a form that the raw material has suggested to Dick’s imagination.

Bookbinders, Fitzpatrick Printers, Tipperary Town, will loan a couple of old tomes with evidence of past bookbinding techniques and also old wooden lettering blocks used for printing before the advance of technological printing.

Quiltmakers Beautiful handmade quilts, sown by local quiltmakers will also be included in the exhibition

Music/Performance We are delighted that the outstandingly talented Nenagh based band ‘Raffiki’ will perform two acoustic pieces following the screening of the short movie at 3pm, Saturday October 1 at Lough Derg Yacht Club. Band Members: Grace Tooher, James Tooher, Laura Sheary, Sean Carroll, Ciaran Toohy and Brian Richardson

There are places still available on the Poetry workshop with Dermot Healy and the Writing workshop with Vincent McDonnell on Satruday October 1, from 10-12.30pm at Lough Derg Yacht Club.  The fee is €15 and includes luncheon, when both workshops meet and chat.  To book your place on either the DLF Poetry or Short Story Workshop, please email Eleanor at emhooker@eircom.net
