Tipperary GAA Scene 30th August

by Ger Ryan, County PRO

Good luck to the Tipperary senior hurlers and management team for the All Ireland final against Kilkenny on Sunday next, September 4.  The team has been prepared well and will represent the county with honour as usual. Nothing will be easy against this fine Kilkenny team but all of Tipperary will be hoping that the Liam MacCarthy Cup can be retained for the first time since 1965. Supporters are reminded that if parking in the vicinity of Croke Park on Sunday to park only in approved spaces or car parks to avoid clamping. We would also ask supporters and businesses to fly the Tipperary colours as much as they can in the lead up to the final.

Thanks to all those who have bought tickets for the double draw bonanza. There are still tickets available for the draw for All Ireland final tickets which takes place this Thursday night, September 1 at 9pm at the Sarsfields Social Centre. Tickets cost only €10 each and are available from clubs, county board officers, the GAA shops in Thurles and Clonmel, online at www.tipperary.gaa.ie and by phone during business hours Monday to Saturday at 0504 22702. All proceeds from the draw will be used towards the training of county teams.

Tickets are still available for the Post All Ireland Final Banquet at the Burlington Hotel on Sunday night. Tickets for the function, to include the meal and entertainment are priced at €70 each. Tables for 10 – 12 persons may be purchased, but individual tickets are also available. A limited number of post banquet tickets will be available at the cost of €10 each. This will allow entry to the function once dinner and the formalities have concluded (approx. 11.00 pm onwards). Payment for tickets (cheques made payable to Tipperary Association Dublin) should be sent, along with a stamped addressed envelope, to; Pat Ryan, Tipperary Association Dublin, 11 Foxfield Grove, Raheny, Dublin 5. For further details contact 086 1216407. Tipperary County Board would like to thank the Tipperary Association Dublin for arranging the function.

Dublin defeated Galway in last Sunday’s All Ireland minor football semi-final and qualified to play Tipperary in the All Ireland final on Sunday, September 18. It is a repeat pairing of the 1984 final which was the last final appearance by Tipperary. The senior final between Kerry and Dublin is also a repeat of the 1984 final. Interestingly both Tipperary and Dublin scored 1-11 in their semi-finals and both conceded 12 points, Tipperary 0-12 to Roscommon and Dublin 1-9 to Galway.

Tipperary GAA’s 5 year strategic plan was launched by Uachtaran Cumann Luthchleas Gael, Criostóir Ó Cuana at the Dome at Semple Stadium on Thursday night last. The plan covers all aspects of running and developing the Association in Tipperary over the next 5 years. It can be viewed online at www.tipperary.gaa.ie/premierplan. Printed and CD copies have also been issued to all clubs. Thanks to all those who contributed to the plan particularly the Strategic Plan Steering Committee chaired by Tim Floyd. Special praise and thanks are due to Denis Floyd who was responsible for compiling and editing the final plan. He did an excellent job that required a lot of research, effort and patience.

Tipperary County Board extends its deepest sympathy to Nicholas Moroney, Coaching and Games Development Officer of the Board, on the death of his wife, Mary, on Monday of this week. We also offer our sympathy to their family and friends at this sad time. Their son John was a member of the Tipperary under 21 hurling panel this year.
