North Tipp Schoolchildrens football League Mon 15 Aug

North Tipperary were represented in the under 13 section of the resent Galway Cup by a squad drawn from its 1998 born representative players.
They played 5 matches over 4 days against top quality opposition a tournament that has become one of Europe’s premier underage summer events.
North Tipperary’s first game on the 3RD of August was against Kildare and the North Tipperary lads suffered a rare defeat loosing 2-1 in a keenly contested match.
Cien Darcy was the Tipp goal scorer while David Kelly was at his best marshalling the North Tipp defence
The 4th of August saw North Tipp play 2 matches the first was against Northern Irelands Duncannon Youths. The Tipp lads raced into a 2 goal lead with a brace from Cien Darcy and were playing some great football but and off key second half saw the game finish 2-2. Declan Mc Grath produced a great performance in this match while Stepen Nolans superb pass for Darcys first goal was one of the moments of the Tournament
Second up on the day was a match against the North East Counties and North Tipperary had the better of the early parts of the match but with the game poised at 2-1 in the Tipp lad favour late on they pushed on the attack trying to find the 3rd goal that would have giving them a favourable goal difference for further progression in the Tournament and were caught late on by a NEC equaliser. Stephen Nolan and Jake Ryan were the Tipp goal scorers.
Friday the 5th saw North Tipp take on Galway and in a battling performance Tipp came from behind with a late equaliser to force a 2-2 draw David Kelly and Jake Ryan were the goal scorers.
Last up on the Saturday the North Tipperary 1998s played West Waterford East Cork
And ran out 4-0 winners Jake Ryan grabbed a hat Trick and David Kelly scored the other goal. North Tipp played their best football of the Tournament in this game with Stephen Nolan dominant in Midfield.
Over all with 1 loss, 1 win and 3 draws and 11 goals scored against top quality opposition North Tipperary can be pleased with their weeks work. At times Tipp played some sparkling football but admittedly they never sustained their performance levels over an entire match. This can in part be explained by the Tipp management taking a different approach to the Tournament to many of its opponents by giving all 19 squad members match starts and by using the maximum allocation of substitutions
in all matches.
The standard of team play at this age group was most impressive and demonstrated the quality of player, the preparation levels, the resources and expertise been imparted on League Representative Squads Nationally. This served as a reminder to the North Tipperary management and players of the effort that will be required over the next 12 months to maintain their current high standing in National representative football.
A speedy recovery is wished to Cien Darcy who unfortunately fractured his arm in the Dungannan match we hope to see him back in action soon.
