National Community Games Silver for Daniel

The HSE National Community Games Athletic Finals took place in AIT, Athlone on Saturday 20th & Sunday 21st August. The Club & parish had 11 athletes taking part in 8 different events with all performing to the highest standards in a very competitive environment. Star of the weekend was Daniel Ryan who won a magnificent Silver in the Boys U/14 80m Hurdles competing a year out of his age. Daniel was in top form placing 2nd in his Heat behind Iarla Courtney from Kerry, the National Silver medallist in the Boys U/14 75m Hurdles this year, easily winning his Semi-Final & placing 2nd in his Final behind Philip Hamilton from Sligo. A well deserved medal for Daniel who has enjoyed a great year of athletics breaking the Munster Indoor Record in the Boys U/13 60m Hurdles & the Munster Outdoor Record in the Boys U/13 Long Jump. He is also the current Munster Champion in the Boys U/13 60m (Outdoors), High Jump (Indoors), 60m Hurdles (Indoors & Outdoors), Long Jump (Outdoors) & Outdoor Combined Events, the Munster Silver medallist in the Boys U/13 Indoor Combined Events & a National Silver medallist in the Boys U/13 Long Jump (Outdoors). Daniel’s brother, David also competed very well in the Boys U/12 100m which was a very competitive competition. He placed 3rd in his Heat & 5th in his Semi-Final narrowly missing out on a place in the Final. David is the current Boys U/12 National Indoor Long Jump Champion & a Silver medallist in the Boys U/12 National Outdoor Long Jump. He is also the Munster Indoor & Outdoor Boys U/12 Long Jump Champion & a Silver medallist in the Boys U/12 Outdoor Combined Events. In the Boys U/12 600m, Jack Fallon performed very well in his race placing 7th in his Heat & just missing out on a place in the Final. Jack is the current Munster “B” Boys U/12 600m Champion & a silver medallist in the Boys U/12 Long Jump. He also won Munster Indoor Silver in the Boys U/12 600m & Bronze in the Long Jump earlier this year.

In the Boys U/8 60m, Cillian McDonagh ran a stormer of a race in his Heat to win it, he then placed 4th in the Semi-Final & ran the race of his life to place 5th in the Final. Cillian has enjoyed great success this year so far winning Munster Gold in the Boys U/9 Team Games in both the Long Jump & the 300m & National Bronze in the National Team Games with his team-mate Dillon Ryan. In the Boys U/10 200m, Adam O’Dwyer who was competing a year out of his age ran well in a fiercely competitive heat to place 5th just missing out on a place in the Semi-Final. Adam is a current Silver Munster & National medallist in the Boys U/10 Ball Throw with his team-mate Kyle Shelly.

Our only girl to represent the Club & Parish was Ciara Mockler who competed in the Girl’s U/14 Shot Putt. Ciara threw very well on the day to record a new personal best & 4th place which earned her a Pewter medal on the winner’s podium. Ciara has enjoyed great success this year winning Munster silver in the Girls Indoor & Outdoor U/15 Shot Putt, Munster Bronze in the U/15 Discus, Munster Schools Indoor & Outdoor Silver in the Girls Shot Putt & National Bronze in the Girls U/15 Discus. John Duggan represented the parish in the Boys U/16 Discus, our first competitor in this competition for some time. John threw very well in a highly competitive competition, recording a personal best but did not progress to the final eight. Our Boys U/12 4 x 100m Relay team did us proud. The team of Oran Mulhall, Jack Ryan, Jack Fallon, David Ryan, Sean Mockler & Rhys Shelly competed very well to come home in the final in 4th place to win a set of Pewter medals. The boys ran very well placing 2nd in their Heat & 3rd in their Semi-Final. In the Final, Oran Mulhall ran a stormer of a first leg to hand over to Jack Ryan who ran up the back straight at a blistering pace to hand over to Jack Fallon on the bend. Jack powered on to hand over the David Ryan who ran the race of his life to maintain his position & hold off the other competitors for 4th place. The same relay team were 5th in the National Inter-County Relays in Tullamore in July so they made it one place better last weekend to come 4th. Congratulations & well done to all our competitors who represented their Club, Parish &  County so well over the weekend.
