Irish Seed Savers Association workshops in September

September 2011 Workshops in Capparoe, Scariff, Co Clare, 061 921856, www.irishseedsavers.ie

There is a lot going on at Irish Seed Savers Association in Scariff Co Clare this September.  We have workshops that will keep you busy into the winter with our Organic Gardening for Winter Crops (Sat Sept 3rd), which will give you tips on things you can do now that will make all the difference to next year’s growing, and our Polytunnel Winter Crops workshop (Sat Sept 17th) which will give you ideas on how to keep your polytunnel productive with vegetables all though the autumn, winter and early spring.

On Sunday September 11th on our Preserving and Storing a Bountiful Harvest workshop, you can walk in our gardens to identify plants both cultivated and wild and discuss their needs and uses, sample lots of delights and take home a jar of something delicious!  If you would like to know more about native trees and plants and the wildlife that they host, make sure you join us on Saturday 10th at our Planting to Attract Wildlife workshop.  Birdwatch Ireland will also be joining us that day to discuss the variety of birds that can be seen around the country so bring your binoculars.  Or maybe you would like to make your own chair or stool at our Building Rustic Furniture workshop (Sat Sept 18th), this is a very ‘hands on’ workshop with natural wood branches and sisal rope the main materials for this busy day.

All workshops run from 9.30am to 4pm and cost €60 or €54 for supporters, there is a small charge for materials for some of the workshops.  If you are interested please telephone Irish Seed Savers Association on 061 921866 or see www.irishseedsavers.ie for details.  We will be wrapping up September with our Apple Open Days on 24th (Supporters only) and 25th (open to public).    Guest Speakers include Darina Allen, who will give a talk and a cookery demonstration on Sunday 25th, and on both days we will have interesting talks on Food Growing Topics both Past and Present, Juicing and Tasting of Native Irish Apples, Apple Tree Sales, Traditional Skills Demos, Fun Kids Activities: bug Hunts, Face Painting, Garden and Orchard Tours, Market Stalls, Organic Café, Live Music and more…..
