Flynn O Kane Academy of Dance

One year on and Flynn O’Kane Academy of Dance has had a very busy and exciting year!!! The dancing duo really have achieved the goals and aims that were so important for their Academy. They have watched their students grow in confidence and have created an exciting buzz within the Academy while learning to dance. The children really love what they are doing and their happiness and enthusiasm is very satisfying for Bernadette and Damien as teachers.

Their students had great competitive success at their first Mini-Munster Championships taking home many top awards. They also had students compete at the Munster and All-Ireland Championships this year.

During the year their hip hop dance workshops proved very popular. But for Bernadette and Damien they achieved one of their main goals when they put into practice ‘Irish Dance with a Twist’ and staged a twenty minute performance as part of their summer school programme. This truly is a ‘Dance for a new generation’.

Bernadette and Damien still managed to keep their ties with Lord of the Dance when they both performed with Michael Flatley for Prince Charles and Camilla in Buckingham Palace in February. Bernadette also flew to London and New York for the premieres of the ‘Lord of the Dance 3D Movie’ which was shown in cinemas across the world. The DVD of the show starring Bernadette is released this month.

The Academy also created an Irish Dance programme for adults called ‘Dancercise’. They will be offering adult classes in various locations from mid-September. They are extremely excited for another year of dance and new and exciting things ahead!!! ‘Come on, get jiggy with us’.
