National Gold, Silver & Bronze at Team Games

The Club had 3 teams taking part in the National Juvenile Team Games for U/9 to U/11 in Templemore on Saturday last, 25th June & what a day we had. All of our teams performed brilliantly taking home 4 sets of National medals proving that we have some very talented athletes that can compete with the best in Ireland. Our Boys U/9 team of Cillian Mc Donagh & Dillon Ryan had a great competition to win Bronze in the Boys U/9 300m with their combined time of 1.55.33 over 5 seconds faster than they ran at the Munster Championships in Ennis over 2 weeks ago. They also performed very well in the Long Jump just missing out on the Bronze medal by 3 cm. Both boys jumped 3.03m (which was a personal best for Cillian) to register a combined jump of 6.06m (15cm further than their Munster jumps). Our Boys U/10 Team of Adam O’Dwyer & Kyle Shelly were inspired in their throwing when they won National Silver in the Ball Throw with a combined total of 61.87m, throwing over 10 metres more than their Munster Championships a few weeks ago.

Our stars of the day had to be Jack Ryan & Shane Burke who won National medals in both their events. The boys were U/9 National Long Jump Bronze medal winners in 2009, National Long Jump Silver medal winners in Boys U/10 in 2010 & this year they were crowned National Long Jump Champions when they blew away all the competition to win Gold & a National title with 78cm to spare. The boys jumped a combined length of 7.91m with Jack jumping the longest jump of the competition at 4.08m (the only athlete over 4m) & Shane jumping a big personal best of 3.83m, the 3rd longest jump of the competition. In the 60m sprints, the boys won Bronze, a huge improvement on last year when they only came 4th in Munster & failed to make the National Finals. Jack ran a blistering 9.07sec in his heat which was the fastest run of the competition while Shane ran the 14th fastest time of 9.56sec & would probably have run faster but for a starting fault with the gun on the line which delayed his heat for a short while. The boys registered a combined time of 18.63sec just behind the silver medallists from Ballinasloe on 18.54sec & the gold medallists from Doneen on 18.43sec. Nothing between the teams at all. Congratulations to all the boys, we are so proud of you & thanks to the coaches & parents who have showed such dedication & devotion over the season. Look what it has achieved.
