Habitat for Humanity Ireland is excited to announce the second year of their Women Build!

This year, a group of women will be swapping their heels for hammers and travelling to Romania in October to spend 10 days building much needed homes in partnership with local families.

Women Build will be travelling back to Pitesti, Romania. From day one the ladies will be hands on – from mixing cement and filling in foundations, to putting on the roofs. There is a job for everyone. Most importantly they will be working side-by-side with the family who will be moving into the new house once it was completed.

Last year the team worked with Marian and his family on site. For 10 months, he and his wife Iuliana had been living with his mother in a small village which did not have sewerage or running water. Marian explained, “We are looking forward to being able to offer our daughter opportunities we never had, and with a stable home we will have more children and they will all enjoy a safe place to play.”

Gwen Malcahy, recalls her favourite memories from Women Build 2010, “I have so many great memories from the trip -from the fun among the ladies to the work on site.  I was in-charge of putting down the floor and when I finished felt a real sense of achievement!  She added, “Meeting Marian and getting to know his family was great – I am looking forward to going back this year.”

All women of are welcome to apply, including individuals, groups, sports teams and clubs.
