Cork City Marathon Extends Deadline Due to Huge Surge in Entries

The Bord Gáis Energy Cork City Marathon today extended the closing date for entries until Monday, 16th May after receiving a huge surge in last minute registrations as the initial deadline loomed.

Those who still wish to sign up now have a week to get their entries in either by post or through a simple online registration process on www.corkcitymarathon.ie .  Organisers asked people not to call into the marathon office in City Hall, but instead to use the online system which is fast, efficient and easy to use.

Commenting on entries to the 2011 Bord Gáis Energy Cork City Marathon, Race Director Jim O’ Donovan said: “The website was inundated over the weekend with 11th hour registrations and today the phone has rung off the hook with people desperate to ensure their entry is registered. It’s always the same each year and we are delighted that the interest is so high. I want to reassure everyone that their entry will be processed and registered and not to worry. We have extended the deadline by almost a week to ensure that we get all the registrations in. We are getting huge interest especially from relay teams and given that the relay helps raise over €3m for over 150 charities we don’t want anyone to miss out on this terrific fundraising opportunity.

“We are hoping to see a record turnout on the start line for the2011 Bord Gáis Energy Cork City Marathon on Bank holiday Monday, June 6th. It looks set to be a fantastic event.”
