Morris Election Campaign Launched: ‘I Have A Moral Obligation To Stand.’

Seamus Morris

Last Saturday evening at the Hiberian Inn in Nenagh, Cllr Seamus Morris, Sinn Fein candidate for North Tipperary/South Offaly, launched his election campaign. Chairwoman and special guest, Cllr Toireasa Ferris (North Kerry) said, “ Cllr. Seamus Morris, through his dedicated hard work at county and town council levels, has shown that he has the welfare and best interests of the people  at  heart. The citizens of North Tipperary/South Offaly need a genuine man of the people to fight their fight in the Dail and Seamus is that man.”

Before a packed hall, Cllr. Morris thanked him supporters and stated that he is standing in the upcoming general election because, ‘I have a moral obligation to help this country out of the deep morass it is in at the moment.’  Cllr.  Morris outlined the disastrous effects that our home-grown recession has rendered on families throughout the constituency and the severe strain that they are now suffering.  He emphasized the roles that Maire Hoctor and Michael Lowry have played in ‘supporting the worst government that this State has ever seen, which has destroyed the ability of parents in this constituency to actually feed, clothe and put a roof over their childrens’ heads.’

Cllr. Morris stated that ‘An economy of 1.8 million workers cannot pay off these debts that have been forced upon them.  All along, Sinn Fein has taken a harsher line on facing down the foreign bondholders and more and more economists are agreeing with our position.  We also said that more time was needed to rectify the economy, but the Pan European front parties of Labour, Fine Gael and Fianna Fail dismissed this proposal until the E.R.S.I. agreed with us.   There is only one solution to this crisis and that is to decouple the bank debt of  €180 billion away from sovereign debt.  This means that we need to put the bank debt, which was caused by private institutions, back into private hands.

‘North Tipperary/South Offaly needs a change, it needs a new face to wipe away the stale representation that we have endured in previous years. North Tipperary/South Offaly needs a T.D that will represent the worker, the unemployed, the farmer, and the small business man. Not alone our constituency, but our entire country, needs an alternative to the failed parties that have run us into the ground. My party offers that alternative and I promise real change. All I ask of the people of North Tipperary/South Offaly is to lend me your vote for this election and I can assure you that I will represent your interests, honestly and tirelessly.  I will play my part in getting this country back on its feet again.’
