President Mary McAleese to Visit West Tipperary Sat 4th September 2010

President Mary McAleese will visit West Tipperary on Sat 4th September 2010.  She will begin her visit in Emly or in ‘Imleach lubhair’ (the border of the lake of the yew trees), to mark the town’s commendable achievement of being awarded Ireland’s tidiest town in 2009 – no easy feat given 720 towns entered the competition!

Later in the day, in order to mark the 25th anniversary of the Muintir na Tire Community Alert Programme, she will visit Tipp Town.  This programme was first established by the Muintir na Tíre in 1985, when they first set up the Community Alert Programme in response to the growing attacks on older people in rural areas.

The Muintir na Tire now work in partnership with the Gardai with the focus being geared towards crime prevention and safety programmes for rural communities.

The event will take place at the Canon Hayes Recreation Centre in Tipp Town and will be hosted by Muintir na Tíre President Martin Quinnn.

I attended Canon Hayes Centre in Tipp town on Saturday last. It was a lovely event .President Mc Aleese spoke and thanked all us volunteers in Community Alert. It was Brillant that President McAleese took the time to include Community Alert in her busy schedule . So many of us volunteers in many organizations do so much work and go un noticed and we do same for the Betterment of our communities. I am PRO for Community Alert in Mountnugent Co.Cavan. It was offically set up this year , after two years trying . Our local Sgt was very keen for us to form. Our chair person Paul Fenlon came with me on Saturday. Looking at the differant projects from differant area’s and their idea’s. We might be able to interduce some of them in our area. We have the Texting going on a limited basis. It is always good to see what others are up to. Well done to all of you in Canon Hayes Centre. Best wishes Tess Brady
ps would it be possible to send some photos of the event via email. tess
