Nenagh Eire Og Camogie notes 3rd August 2010

Sponsored by Nenagh Credit Union

We are coming to an end of the u12 and u 14 seasons and both teams have been moved up a grade for the league campaigns. The u 14s are competing in the b division and the u 12s are competing in the A Division. There is no doubt that as a club the A divisions are where we want to be competing but as a young club we have to be careful that we have a continuous supply of well coached players coming through that will be capable of competing in A divisions.

The u 12s played against Cahir last week in the A semi final. Cahir are the A championship winners so this was a huge challenge for the girls but it was one that they were up for. The team worked extremely hard as a unit and pressed Cahir everywhere on the pitch leading to openings for the Nenagh forwards particularly Grace O Brien who scored 1-4 adding to the superb goal from Ruth Spillane who has proven to be a great addition to the squad. The Nenagh backs and mid field were superb and worked in unison to snuff out this fancied Cahir team. The final score was 2-4 to 0-6 with Cahir only scoring 2 points from play. The final was against  Toomevara who are a formidable  Camogie club and one that we would aspire to be like. After a fantastic battle where backs dominant in each team Toomevara won the game by 5 pts to 2 pts. The girls were devastated but they can be proud of the mammoth effort the made for their team and club. Toomevara showed their experience by closing off our main scoring threat but again the rest of the team stepped up to the plate just falling sort at the end. It is a reminder to us all that Nenagh Eire Og as a club have now arrived at the A Stage in just 7 short years in existence. The hard work by all in the club past and present is now taking fruition and will further blossom in the future years . We would also like to thank the club members and volunteers who provided the tea and food after the game in the Complex. There was a wonderful display of food for the children and parents alike.

The u 14s started the campaign with a comfortable win against Clonoulty and followed on with a tough battle as usual against Newport in Newport having to come from 4 points down at half time to finally win 6-2 to 4-3. The u 14s had a very tough battle against Kilruane in the county semi final last week. This was as tough an encounter as you would expect from two near rivals that compete well with each other but also share great mutual respect. Only one point separated the two teams at half time with Nenagh leading 1-2 to 1-1. in the second half Nenagh finally got the upper hand and won out in the end 4-2 to 2-2 to set up a mouth watering county final against an experienced club  in Moneygall. It will be a tough battle against a well established club but the Nenagh ladies will give it their all. We now play a fancied Moneygall team in the county final on Thursday in the Ragg. We desperately need all the support we can muster as the girls will need every advantage they can gain while playing against such an established club.

Congratulations to Ciara McGrath and the Tipperary u 16 team who won the Munster u 16 A final in Nenagh against Clare 5-09 to 0-06. The team showed great courage to bounce back after losing a fantastic All Ireland Final against Galway in Tullamore. We would like to thank the management team of Noelle Kennedy Timmy Maher Rory Kennedy Nora Dwan and Marianne Graham for the hard work and commitment for the year. With this team and management  the future of Tipperary Camogie is secure.
