Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance is Open in South Tipperary until 30th Sept. – Reminder to Apply Early

South Tipperary T.D. Tom Hayes is encouraging parents to apply for the Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance ahead of the September closing date, in light of the news today that the average cost of sending a child to their first year of secondary education stands at €815, while the Allowance stands at only €305.

“I have received confirmation from the HSE today that the scheme is open for application in South Tipperary and that all applications are being processed. Last year, people experienced huge delays in receiving payment and this is why I have pursued this with the Department. I am encouraging all parents to apply for this Allowance as soon as possible, to avoid the stress and anxiety of late payments,” Tom Hayes T.D. said.

“The news today that it costs parents on average €815 per child for their first year in secondary school is not a surprise to parents, but many people are now eligible for the Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance, and may never have applied for this scheme in the past. People need to be aware that there are support in place for them which will help with the financial pressure of having a children start back to school in September. While there is a definite gap between the amount it costs to send children to school and the amount of funding available, it can make a big difference to families to avail of this scheme.”

“It is important for parents to get their applications in as early as possible to ensure that they can get paid as soon as possible. Fifteen people have been assigned to processing this payment, and I have direct confirmation from the HSE that this work is progressing, which is a positive result, as there were so many difficulties for parents last year,” Tom Hayes said.
