For the first time North Tipperary will be represented in the penultimate stage of a national competition when Nenagh Town play the semi final on Sunday next.

After a great run of victories, two of which were decided by the nerve wracking penalty shoot-out, their next outing will be against the powerful Galway city side Mervue Utd., who will field several players at present in the Mervue Airtricity League first division panel.

The road to this stage began with a bye in the first round and a second round 3-1 home win over Tramore of Waterford.

The third round was a much easier 8-2 thrashing of South Tipp. side St. Nicholas’.

Villa Utd. of Waterford city were next up and after a 1-1 draw, Nenagh won 4-2 on penalties.

Yet another home game was next, when Drogheda were dispatched after another 1-1 draw, also by 4-2 on penalties.

An away quarter final against Killester in Dublin seemed a daunting task, but manager Martin Donnellan and assistant Aaron Savage had their charges up for it and they came away with a magnificent 3-2 win.

The focus now moves to Sunday next, when the biggest test so far will be Mervues visit to Brickfields. Kick off is at 2.30. A big home support would be appreciated by this team and mentors, so make it your business to be at the venue in good time and to give them plenty of vocal support.

The winners of this semi will also have the incentive of home advantage in the final, against Fairview Rangers of Limerick.
