Kevin McAleer to bring his strange brand of surrealist humour to The Source on April 24th

kevin-aleerOne of Ireland’s most surreal comedians is coming to The Source for a very special debut appearance. Kevin McAleer, the monologing madcap from RTE’s seminal Nighthawks is at The Thurles venue on Saturday 24th April at 8pm.

McAleer is famous for being able to make the most mundane of activities into the most engaging drama. “When we were young, we made our own entertainment…By watching the television.” He is rooted in the Irish psyche every bit as much as Flann O’Brien or Brendan Behan. It is not so much the conclusions he draws, as the journey he takes to get there, that makes him unique. Anyone who grew up in Ireland will recognise the well of characters from which he draws his comic inspiration. From grandmothers, to strange uncles, to pub bores, you will recognise exactly where all his stories come from. Kevin has also been a great inspiration to the younger generation of Irish comedians with David O’Doherty citing a Kevin McAleer gig as the reason why he decided to become a stand up comedian.

So why not get reacquainted with the Irish experience of the moon landing or the story of the woman and the washing machine and come to see Kevin McAleer at The Source on 24th April.

Kevin McAleer is at The Source Arts Centre on Saturday 24th April at 8pm. Tickets €18 / €16 concession.
