Following the success of the inaugural Newtown Dog Show and Family Fun Day last year, the event will run again on Monday 3rd May. It will be held in Barry’s Field, Newtown just outside Nenagh. All proceeds will go to the Ormond Special Olympics Club.

There will be 10 classes judged by Anne O’Keeffe from the Irish Wolfhound Society, Shane Lee from the Terrier Association and Sally St. George. Judges will be assisted by Padraig McSweeney and, Leslie Stanley will act as MC for the day. Class winners will receive rosettes and the overall winner and runner-up will each receive an engraved crystal trophy. Prizes have been sponsored by a local businessman, who wishes to remain anonymous. The Dog Agility Contest will be run by Tracey Brophy of Feebeg Kennels in Borrisokane and Reverend Janet White Spunner from Shinrone. Prizes for that have been sponsored by Husse Ireland. O’Donovan Marquees in Birdhill and George Sutton from Moneygall have kindly donated marquees for the day. So, even if it rains, the show will go ahead. Children will have fun with a tombola, a bouncing castle provided by Maurice O’Riordan and, pony rides will be run by Martin McCarthy. There will also be fun activities for adults like the raffle and the horse shoe throwing competition, which is being run by Paul Nugent!
