Ireland’s first inland dive centre to open at Portroe Quarry, Nenagh, Co. Tipperary

We are very pleased to announce the opening of Portroe Dive Centre this Good Friday, Easter Bank Holiday Weekend.

Work has been taking place behind the scenes for the last two months to make  Portroe Quarry, Ireland’s first inland dive centre.

For many years divers have been asking for this location to be developed as an all weather dive site with safe access and on site facilities.

A rescue boat, oxygen, and first aid will be on site. Bulldozers have changed the landscape and a new access ramp has been built to the water’s edge.

Portacabins containing office, snacks, spares, changing rooms and toilets will be provided. Air will also be available.  Ample free parking is on site.

With depth areas ranging from 10m, 18m, 25m, 30m and 40m, Portroe will have something for all levels of divers.

Initial opening hours will be 10am – 6pm, Saturdays and Sundays, and Bank Holiday Mondays, with last dives taking place at 4.30 pm.

There will be a day admission fee of  €20. An afternoon fee of  €10 will apply after

3.30 pm. (For now we can only accept payment by cash until we get debit/credit card facilities set up).

Registration will be required, and a small fee will apply. (this fee  will be waived for divers who use the facility during the month of  April). Only certified divers or divers in training under direct supervision will be allowed access to the water.

Further details will be announced as we get nearer to the opening date. A web site and email address is under construction, and but for the moment if  there  are any queries which we have not addressed here, I can be contacted  at .

Thank you for the interest, support and encouragement you have given to help us bring this idea to fruition. We look forward to seeing you, and hope that you will bear with us while we sort out the inevitable teething problems!
