Gerry ‘Banjo’ O’Connor for The Source

Gerry O Connor

Gerry O Connor

The Source Arts Centre is delighted to be presenting the man the Wall Street Journal calls “the best ever banjoist in the history of Irish music.” Gerry O’Connor will be appearing at the Thurles venue for one night only on Saturday 27th March. This concert is a must for all true music fans as it offers the chance to see this internationally respected musician up close and personal.

Gerry and his trusty Banjo have been on a musical journey which has taken in trad with Four Men and a Dog and Sharon Shannon to bluegrass, African and Asian music. He has always taken something from these musical styles to enhance his own playing, and he has added a richness to these sometimes tired formats.

Always rooted in the music he grew up with Gerry never wonders too far from the familiar music of Ireland, but there are always little surprises in his playing, which always stretches the voice of the instrument to it’s full potential. So look out Thurles, here comes Gerry ‘Banjo’ O’Connor!

Gerry ‘Banjo’ O’Connor is at The Source Arts Centre on Saturday 27th March at 8pm. Tickets €18 / €16 concession.
