Co. Tipperary HSE Community Games

community-games1The Finals of the County Tipperary HSE Community Games Under 14 Juvenile Quiz was held recently in the Presentation Convent (Secondary), Thurles.  The turnout on the night was extremely large with 27 teams participating, 10 of which came from Thurles.  County Secretary Kitty England said that it was a pleasure to see the event being so well supported by the areas.  Each round of questions contained one Community Games question which most of the 27 teams answered correctly.  It was nip and tuck throughout the competition with the lead changing hands on a number of occasions until the eventual winners of the event emerged from one of quiz specialists Clerihan’s two teams.  The excitement was palpable when we had a tie-breaker for 2nd place between St. Mary’s of Clonmel, Thurles, Moycarkey Borris and St. Flannan’s.  It was with bated breath that the teams waited for the result, with St. Mary’s of Clonmel eventually emerging in second place.  In joint third place were Thurles and Moycarkey Borris with St. Flannan’s finishing in fourth.  On the night there were a large number of teams from Thurles, Burgess, Moycarkey Borris and St. Flannan’s participating who were unlucky not to be in the medals.  Our thanks to Louise Lanigan the Area Secretary in Thurles for her organising of the venue and to the Presentation Convent for hosting the event.  Peggy Colville from Fethard maintained her usual high standards in setting the questions for the night; Seamus Hogan from St. Flannan’s acted as Quizmaster and was assisted from the floor by Josephine Martin (Moycarkey Borris) and Ailish Maher (Burgess)  with Jim Ryan (Moycarkey Borris) and Joan Hogan (St. Flannan’s) acting as tellers on the night.  Our thanks also to all the schools and parents for supporting this event and bringing the teams to Thurles on the night.
